Got to get focused again!

The death of my father-in-law and Christmas has taken most of my time.  The rest of my time has been trying to recoup from the exhaustion of it all.  My new toy has been fun, but I've learned that you can't take candid shots of people in the portrait or landscape mode, it blurs because of movement!  So I guess I'll be sticking to my Nikon SLRD50 to take my family holiday photos candidly.  It's ok if you're doing an actual portrait and nobody moves, but....well, I'll just use my SLR to do portraits and candid shots.  I did get a few shots of my Christmas tree and the fire in my wood stove that look pretty cool to me.........

New Toy

I bought myself a new toy for Christmas with money I received as a gift.  It's a Nikon Coolpix S8200, wow, I absolutely love it!  I've never really learned enough about aperture and shutter speed, to play with, to my liking anyway.  So I've always used mostly the automatic mode on my Nikon D50.  I've used the aperture mode and shutter mode with the D50 but, always liked the auto pic the best.  So I stick with automatic.  But this little point and shoot camera I now have has so many different modes to choose from it's like they put a photographer's brain inside the camera so you don't have to figure out the different settings.  :)  They are all right there for your pleasurable easy shooting.  This morning I put it in snow mode, used the zoom and shot my snow covered pine boughs and red berries in the barrel outside my front door, from my breezeway.  Wow, it came out beautifully!  Here's a sample of beauty!

They've really come a long way with point and shoot cameras.  This camera has become my best friend and will be with me where ever I go!  Happy shooting!

Business Cards

Had to make business cards online, I couldn't find where to upload mine to make them look good for a good price!  Still learning!  I'm happy with the ones I ordered, that's the good news!

Learning so much

I'm watching Chase Jarvis on his live video web page talking to Tim Ferriss.  Learning so much from this regarding the business side of photography.  I'm thinking I need to buy Tim's book, "The 4-Hour Workweek".  I'm going to learn how to build a home studio too from this!  It's giving me incentive to finish my frog story!  But I don't like the way this blog page looks so I think I'll work on it.  I'm so still under construction!  I also don't like the way I write, it's been way to long for me, I need to get back into it. Time to get to work!

My next move............

My next move will be to upload photos, yikes....cyriously?  Kidding, I'm ok with it all!  Love what I do, having fun with it all!

I wish I had done this sooner!

Yeah, I'm sure everyone says the same thing about wishing to do this sooner, but I really do wish it cause it's so much fun!  But I had a lot to learn and am still learning.  I'm jealous of my kids because they are learning what I wanted to but we didn't have it in school back then.  I got most of my business card done, but am still working on it.  How's it look :

I want to fill in the black right corner with something and not sure what!  Or should I leave it alone?

Business Cards

Well, I've worked on my business cards off and on today, phew, it's exhausting but rewarding!  I'm going to have a variety of them for the different types of photography that I can do.  For instance one for weddings/seniors/proms, then one for cards/calendars/postcards, then maybe one that's real formal or something.  I'll figure it out along the way!  HA!  Most people I've spoken to tell me to buy them online, I say, why, when I can do them myself.  I looked at lots of templates online and didn't like any of them.  I'd rather create them myself even thought it's frustrating because I'm not a photoshop pro or beginner, ahahahaha!  So I watched lots of tutorials on photoshop today along with reading "The Missing Manual"  for it!  Let's do it!

I really liked one website that was so good at teaching exactly what you are suppose to do to accomplish what you want but, it was a paid site after a few lessons and I'm not sure I want to do that yet....pay.  As long as I can find free lessons, then why would I pay?

I'm still excited about this new journey that's a lot of fun work, I just wish I wasn't going in blind!  I need a mentor or what Jenna said, go work as an assistant to a local photographer, but where?  Time will tell!  Until then I need some rest!

I'll have to work on a sit down/stand up work place!  Sitting this long is not ok!  For tonight, I need to go planking somewhere, I've sat long enough!  Or maybe tebowing somewhere in the house!  Anything but sitting and since so many of my friends and relatives need prayer, along with me, seems appropriate!

Till next time, going to recoup my brain!  Ha!  Love this new journey!

Uploading for prints

Today I just finished uploading twenty something photos to use on my first cards.  I'm hoping they come out great so I can get started soon.  My mom told me this shop downtown that is already excited about my new business and wants to add my photography crafts to her place on Main Street.  How cool is that!  I can't wait to get out there and get more photos for the Christmas holidays coming up.

My goal in this whole business is to glorify my God and Savior who has given me this gift!

Starting out

Starting out ~ I'm finding tough!  Every site is different!  Which site do I use?  Facebook?  Blogspot? Wordpress?  On and on, it's hard to figure out!  Oh I'm sure the ones who have been doing this for years would laugh at me, but to me, who is getting back in after a 15 year leave of absence to raise my kids, it's not a pretty picture....no pun intended!  I know how to use the computer, it's the layouts that get me, the wording of the directions of how to put up your profile and photos that seems confusing!  Can we all just get along, use simple words?  I'm going to plug on in this weary world of blogging with photos.....I hope I'll find you along the way, plugging on with me, in my new start on life ~ " I know what I want to be when I grow up"!  Onward!  Slow, but sure!  Photos to come!
